Amelia's past life

Here's a pic that I really think epitomizes what Amelia really is, although it has many meanings, this is how I would describe it.

If you take some time to look at several details, especially the facial expression, It shows to me a face of innocence and curiousity, even though she faces adversity in her life, as shown with her tattered clothing and smudges.

But even though that, she still has hope, if you take note, the picture is black, grey, white, while the only color there is are her eyes.

Another symbolity of her innocence is the butterfly, which, in her world is incredibly shy and would only come close to those who are peaceful and worthy. So it coming to her is a major symbol.
